![]() There was a time, not so long ago, when Christians were known to be people of integrity – who could be trusted to keep their word. So pervasive was the Christian ethic that verbal agreements were binding and sufficient. Burglar bars, alarms and security gates were unknown and unnecessary. Women and children could walk alone without fear or danger. What happened? Now we can have Christians exalting a convicted criminal who, as a church leader, was guilty of unrepented adultery; and as a political leader, represented a political party which legalised abortion and pornography; and who was convicted of massive theft of funds designated for the poor. Despite his refusal to confess personal responsibility for his specific actions, or even to admit that he was wrong; and without undertaking any restitution, this unrepentant criminal has been welcomed straight from prison to preach in pulpits! ![]() By God's Grace, the Summit Youth Leadership and Worldview Training Course in Cape Town has been a great success. The Summit was launched by Dr David Noebel in Colorado Springs over 40 years ago. Frontline Fellowship has been conducting Summits in South Africa since 1997. Young people travelled from as far afield as Botswana and Northern Ireland. Many came through from KwaZulu, the Free State, the Transvaal and Eastern Cape. A contingent of 9 travelled through from KwaSizabantu Mission in KwaZulu. The President of the African Christian Democratic Party sent his Personal Assistant and the head of his Youth League. Numerous other ministries, including Waymakers, The Ark and SACLA sent staff members to participate in the programme. Over 100 registered for the Summit in Cape Town. When President Thabo Mbeki of South Africa calls for “an African Renaissance”, what exactly did he mean? Was he calling us to the humanism of the European Renaissance that culminated in the French Revolution and the Soviet Gulags? Or was he merely desiring a return to the pre-Christian Paganism and Animism that afflicted Africa prior to the spread of the Gospel?
However, there is an alternative that South Africans should seriously consider: the faith that successfully campaigned against human sacrifices, eradicated slavery and introduced hospitals. The Christian Faith has made more positive changes on earth than any other force or movement in history. 1 February 2002
On 1st February United Christian Action hosted a National Day of Repentance prayer meeting at Parliament in Cape Town. This was to repent from the national sin of abortion. Since the ANC legalized abortion on demand on 1st February 1997, over 200 000 babies have been killed by abortion in South Africa – legally. Led by UCA Director, Dr. Peter Hammond (who had just returned from Sudan the day before) and UCA Communications Director, Robert McCafferty, the prayer meeting was also addressed by ACDP Member of Parliament, Cheryllyn Dudley. South Africa’s Murder Spree
Violent crime is a reality that affects everyone. According to a recent Interpol survey of its 96 member countries, South Africa had the worst rape statistics and was the 3rd worst in murder statistics. In the last 20 years murder has increased 350%. More people are killed each year in criminal violence in South Africa than were killed in 13 years of political and military violence! (SA Institute of Race Relations). Since the South African government suspended the death penalty on 4 February 1990, over 200 000 people have been murdered. Dear Friends
GREAT COMMISSION COURSE Our last month has been crammed full of interesting events and outreaches. Participants from as far afield as Arizona and Zambia, California and the Congo, Canada and New Zealand took part in our Great Commission Course. The GCC involved prison ministry, film evangelism, mass literature distribution, door to door, one on one, personal evangelism, hard physical work, setting up a large tent in a township with inadequate tools, intense times of prayer, some inspiring visits to Christian heritage sites and mission stations in Cape Town, soccer evangelism on a muddy field and midnight hikes, in the forest, in the river or over the mountain with backpacks filled with Scriptures in Arabic. Dear Friends, We wish you a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. May God be with you and bless you. May Christ be born anew in your heart. Though there are many attempts to take Christ out of Christmas, its spirit of wonder and love cannot be quenched. Christmas is not just a “season” or a “holiday,” Christmas is “Joy to the World, the Lord is come!” It means “Peace on earth and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled.” ![]() Christians take a stand for parental control of education The philosophy of education in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next generation. The Biblical world view is a "historical anachronism" (Prof. Kader Asmal) . "Under no circumstances" should assemblies be used as "occasions for religious observance." "... Schools could influence children’s ideas about sex and relationships even before the onset of intimate encounters... and in imparting the fundamental values of our Constitution" (The Manifesto of Values, Education and Democracy, p. 8). "The intrusion of an adult - whether a teacher or not into the sexuality of children is a form of child molestation that can be just as harmful as an actual attack by a child molester." (Dr Melvin Anchell). Home schoolers want to"impose their loony, paranoid and perverse ideas on the nation" (Prof. Kader Asmal) "There has, I regret to say, been an orchestrated and bizarre campaign against this revision . . . Regrettably, they lie in the same source of groupings which recently lost their appeal to the Constitutional Court to be allowed to beat their children." (Prof. Kader Asmal) ![]() Steve Green must be one of the most inspiring and effective Christian musicians in the world today. His songs are clear, Christ-centered and mostly Scripture. From the beginning of the concert, it was clear that Steve Green was not involved in entertainment, but worship. From the beginning to the end of his concert, Steve Green was plainly worshipping the Lord, and at several points he incorporated the audience, urging everyone to stand up and praise the Lord in song together |
